Brief Introduction
I am a Registered Counsellor with BACP and have been registered with them since 2021. I have been in training since 2017. Training in Transactional Analysis – I am currently continuing to deepen my professional development and working towards completing the process of becoming a Certified Transactional Analyst.
I am a full-time therapist working with individuals, couples and groups. I support clients who are experiencing grief, depression, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, stress, low mood and low motivation.
I offer an accepting and validating space for you to share your experiences and learn new ways of being. I work creatively and differently with each client depending on their personality and needs. I believe in the power of embodiment and I support my clients, as appropriate and necessary, to find their way to learn to embody their experiences via body exploration and the physical acts of ritual.
More About How I Work
My name is Sarah Langstaff. My personal development and growth have led me to believe in a deep combination of thinking and embodiment, connecting body and mind. I see the two as inseparable. When we can think but are out of touch with our body’s experience or we are in our body and can’t understand it, something is out of balance. I have been working to discover my own balance and I believe every individual's balance will be very different.
I work with my clients to help them to understand their life experiences, on a mind level and a body level. Helping them to find their balance, to learn to tune into themselves, finding their own frequency.
Many of us have had life experiences that have left us out of balance, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, discontented, defended, depressed, anxious or confused – the list of the ways we can be out of balance is endless and unique to each individual. I offer a space for my clients to explore their journey, understand their defences, learn how they hold their experience physically and learn how to express themselves more fully and find their way through their pains.
All of my clients’ journeys are personal and unique. I aim to meet each client where they are at and pace our work according to their journey and needs. I have a deep belief in the need that all humans have for attunement and I offer this to all my clients. I have a passion for my work and believe that every one of us needs space in our lives to be able to safely express what can at times feel inexpressible.
The techniques I use with each client will depend on their journey and their desires, I encourage my clients to share their stories at their own pace and support them to make sense of this through thinking and exploration of body experiences. The body exploration may be as subtle as exploring an inadvertent gesture or it may involve the encouragement of more physical movement that embodies their current emotional expression.
As well as working with the body I also have a passion for working with ritual. Supporting my clients to create individual rituals that can help them understand and move through their experiences. Particularly encouraging clients to find ways to honour themselves and mark endings and beginnings.
